NPCs, Players & the Game of Awakening
Why do some people feel like they’re asleep inside the simulation — and others seem to shape it from the inside? This post explores NPCs, Players, and what it really means to wake up and take control of your role.

Understanding roles, awareness, and agency inside the simulation
Have you noticed some people don’t seem fully here?
They repeat the same phrases. They shut down when you ask deep questions. They laugh at synchronicity, dismiss dreams, and seem weirdly invested in keeping things just as they are.
They look real. But something’s missing. You’re not imagining it.
There’s a name — and a theory — for this.
What is an NPC?
In gaming, an NPC is a Non-Player Character. They’re the townspeople, shopkeepers, and background extras coded to repeat the same lines and perform limited functions. They make the world feel populated — but they’re not playing the game. They’re just part of the scenery.
When simulation theory went mainstream, the term was adopted to describe people who seem to move through life on autopilot. And while some online versions have weaponised the term into a sneer, the deeper, metaphysical idea is this:
An NPC is a being running on preloaded scripts. A consciousness still embedded fully in the simulation.
It’s not about intelligence. Or morality. It’s about awareness.
NPCs might be:
- Entirely scripted fragments of the simulation
- Consciousness that has chosen to remain unawakened (for now)
- People so traumatised or entrained that they’re stuck in a loop
And before you get smug, we’ve all had NPC moments. Every time we react from conditioning instead of presence. Every time we scroll mindlessly or parrot a belief without examining it. NPC isn’t an insult. It’s a state. And states change.
Who are the players?
If NPCs are scripts, Players are code-benders. They’re the ones who’ve started asking why. Why am I here? Why does this feel staged? Why do my thoughts shape my world?
Players are:
- Self-aware
- Internally guided
- Curious, skeptical, and spiritually hungry
- Willing to break the script
They make moves, not just motions. They learn from the loops. They feel the “click” when something is off in the environment. They glitch — and instead of ignoring it, they investigate.
And here’s the catch:
The moment you start asking if you’re a Player… you are.
Because NPCs don’t ask.
The game of awakening
Once you wake up inside the simulation, everything changes. Life becomes less like a narrative you’re forced to endure, and more like a sandbox.
You stop looking for rules and start looking for patterns. You begin to notice:
- Symbolic feedback loops
- Synchronicities tied to thought or intention
- Moments of improbable alignment
- Shifts in energy that seem to ripple outward
The simulation starts to respond.
Because Players aren’t just characters. They’re interface nodes. And when they activate, the whole environment adapts.
Call it God-mode. Call it karma. Call it quantum entanglement.
What it really is? Your consciousness is reconnecting with the Source Field and influencing the render engine.
Can NPCs become players?
Yes.
And often, they do.
Waking up can happen suddenly — through trauma, psychedelics, deep grief, meditation, or sheer boredom. It can also happen slowly, through curiosity, discomfort, or the relentless itch that something isn’t quite right.
Some will resist. The script is safe. Predictable. Approved. Awakening requires risk. Pain. Identity loss. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.
But those who do wake up don’t do so alone. They ripple the field.
They destabilise the simulation — not in a destructive way, but like a whisper:
“Hey. You can move differently. There’s more.”
The ethics of playing: No elitism in awareness
This is where the spiritual ego loves to sneak in.
“I’m awake. You’re not.”
“NPCs are sheeple.”
“I’m here to lead the masses.”
Nope.
Real Players know they’re still learning. Still coding. Still running old scripts sometimes, too.
And those still in NPC mode? They’re not lesser. They’re part of the story. They’re doing exactly what they’re meant to — until they’re not.
The key is sovereignty without superiority.
Compassion without co-dependency.
And the humble knowing that awareness is a gift, not a badge.
The real game: Choose your role consciously
You didn’t come here to be a background character. You came to awaken inside the dream.
To feel the edges of the code. To test the rules. To remember that even if this is a simulation, it is sacred.
And you?
You’re not here to win. You’re here to play like it matters. To glitch with grace. To awaken others just by being awake in front of them.
Final Thought: You’re the Character Who Realises They're Also the Coder
You’re not crazy. You’re not broken. You’re not lost. You’re remembering.
And once you know that? The game doesn’t end. It begins.
